This morning, September 15 at 5:11 a.m., the Cygnus NG-23 spacecraft successfully launched, carrying a payload of groundbreaking Thai research into space. The Thailand Liquid Crystals in Space (TLC) project, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natthaphon Chattham from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Kasetsart University, explores liquid crystals under microgravity conditions. The mission lifted off aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA, with Thai researchers on site to witness this historic launch. This marks another significant milestone in Thailand’s space development.

On September 15 at 5:11 a.m. (Thailand time), the Cygnus NG-23 spacecraft successfully launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, carrying Thailand’s liquid crystal research to the International Space Station (ISS). Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nattaporn Chattam of Kasetsart University, this mission marks a historic step in Thailand’s space development.

The TLC mission, launching mid-September 2025, is Thailand’s first liquid crystal experiment in space conducted in collaboration with U.S. ISS National Laboratory and NASA funded by PMU-B. It aims to develop high-performance LCDs, advance Thailand’s scientific expertise, and mark a proud step forward in the nation’s space journey.
